Anyone know of a directory or listing of .onion domain #fediverse instances?

@Locrian you're welcome! Especially in using #XMPP as well and spreading the words of #fediverse and #XMPP :)

@grin

Ok, by the numbers. :-)

1. Yes.

2. Well, your "village" will and someone may decide to share it with their friends, who would share it with theirs and so on.

3. Actually not, because of #1 & #2 -- my exposition to external news is limited and filtered through people who share content. So my contacts (on the mutual basis) are my content curators.

4. I would rather think that users are not interested in back-end. Front-end integration is what an average user experience. As for having it or not, there are platforms that are designed for it (#hubzilla and, while crudely, #... Show more...

So ... I expected it would be a lot calmer on #friendica than other places online that I know - even in the #fediverse. But maybe just not that calm. Hm.

@Marley Van Esbroeck So, then enjoy your stay here and spread the word about #Fediverse and #Friendica! :-) (and maybe #XMPP)

Just had another run in with someone that earnestly asked why #Friendica doesn't have the same amount of users as Facebook or Telegram, and then spouting random nonsense about how hobby (what Friendica is) and business (what Facebook and Telegram are) doesn't necessarily need to be separated, mentioning Elon Musk in the process.

My patience for someone wanting to make #Friendica into something it isn't and realistically can't be eventually ran out and I blocked them.

Hey #Fediverse! :)

I am wondering, why so few people use #Friendica. I personally started out on #Mastodon, but soon already moved on to Friendica, as it simply gives a huge extra load of features: compatible with all Fediverse #protocols (even #Diaspora), excellent feed reader functionality (in combination with #Nitter, #Bibliogram and #Invidious I get a feed from all my important #...

I hope the Fediverse is the same accessible for all residents of Australia. I've got from the news that there will be no news from Australia anymore. which sounds like a total bullshit invented by stupid politicians.
I hope people can share information freely and safely via Fediverse, everywhere in the world.

I need #help (lol)
is there here, in the #fediverse, someone who could help me with #FlareRPG?
(in the "official" forum I write too much, and they can't answer all the time) XD

As @Hypolite Petovan explained to you, your node can only search what it is aware of (means in local database only). Otherwise any search query needs to be replicated to all nodes causing a huge load on the network. There is an other way. You can subscribe to hashtags like e.g. #Friendica or #Fediverse or whatever you want. When your node has the relay enabled, it will include posts in your timeline with that hashtags you subscribed on.

You can "subscribe" to those tags by clicking on them (at least under Friendica) and click "follow" then. That's a healthier way (for the node network) instead of actively searching all nodes and causing a lot load on them. Don't see only yourself searching all alone, other users search, too!

@Testeris for the beginning your server does not know that many posts/users/servers, but it will get better, so I think for now it is good to follow some users and also setup the #Diaspora relay (I think setup be default on fresh install), this will get you some posts and and hence the server will see more users.

Then after some time you can search for users locally. I must agree the search is not really nice... it will return many useless results in my opinion.

I'd also suggest to write a #newhere post, which should include the tag and some other tags that you're interested in. This will be picked up by other users. Also follow some tags of things you're interested in. To follow them, just search for them locally and then in the results (may be empty) click the plus sign in the top.

For questions use !Friendica Support and not !Friendica Developers, for admin related questions you can use !Friendica Admins, but generally I think !Friendica Support is a good start for help.

Welcome to the #Fediverse and have fun!

In my endevour of exploring #Fediverse services to see which might best be suited for me, I have come to #Misskey. I have to say I'm really quite impressed with the feature set and the general feel of it. It looks/feels amazing. I think I might have signed up my test account in Japan though, my connection to it is far from stable.

#Imagine if when #twitter banned #Trump, he had decided to join #mastodon and become part of the #fediverse. Imagine thousands of his followers joining too, so they could read their wannabe Führer's words. Imagine thousands of lefties, progressives and outspoken centrists joining too, so they could respond to him, oppose him, or just make fun of him. Think how big the fediverse would have grown...

#microfiction (loosely speaking)

It would appear that everything is finally working with my Friendica instance, in no small part because of @Hypolite Petovan. I am not a full-blown idiot when it comes to PHP and the like, but it is great to have someone at his level so willing to help and further the cause of the #fediverse. Thank you again, Kind Sir.

Doesn’t quite sound like the #Indieweb idea of #OwnYourOwnData but it seems close. Don’t know what to think about it yet. Those 'fringes of the internet' though... I've seen these discussions on my #Mastodon, #Pleroma and other #fediverse accounts.

Test of the fediverse

Content warning: I did a #test of the #fediverse. I created a #Diaspora, #Friendica and #Mastodon account. In all 3 accounts I did a post with the tag #annievallotton. Friendica uses the Diaspora protocol and ActivityPub and Mastodon uses Activity pub. The Friendica accou

@andrewt made an alternative logo for the #fediverse with some nice ideas below:

*Social networks are blue now, no use fighting it, but a deep blue evokes a universe, as in the Fediverse.

*The infinity symbol to represent the endless space of the Fediverse

*The swoosh evokes rings on a planet, again tying into the universe theme.

Uppe igen!

Libranet låg nere nån dag. Men nu är vi tillbaka där igen! Följ oss där i den fria internet-världen!

Welcome to the Fediverse!

Why do we call it by that name? A brief explanation can be found here. My favorite platform of the ones listed there is Diaspora, because of it’s short learning curve and simple, intuitive interface. In my opinion it’s the most ideal replacement for Farcebook with similar features, except for groups, but I’ll show you how I have created groups of my own right here on Diaspora.

Diaspora Takes Time to Become What You want it to Be.

That’s because you “build your own” experience here. Unlike Farcebook, #Diaspora will not suggest “people you may know” or “stuff you might like.” You tell it what you want to see and who you want to share with. If you are new around here, and especially if you don’t know anyone on Diaspora or elsewhere in the #... Show more...

#Question, libranet.de is down on #Friendica, any idea where I can find out what's up with that? E.g., a twitter account, a blog, a forum, an email address...
Thanks! #fediverse

Hey #Fediverse!
I've got a #problem: I cannot #follow any users on friendica.feneas.org, although other mstdn.social users can! If I click on "Follow", it tells me "friend request sent", but nothing ever arrives at the #Friendica user's account. I can follow any other fediverse user without any problems... Does anyone have an idea, why this could be the case? (And no, I didn't get blocked, neither by the user, nor by the #instance...)

#Thanks so much in advance!!! 😊

Wonder what other social media alternatives are out there? Wonder what 'the #fediverse' is? @workin' 12 to 9ish of #Pleroma fame wrote a blog / faq post about it.

TFW you are glad Gab decided to remove itself from the rest of the #fediverse

Hey everyone, I’m #newhere. I’m interested in #diaspora, #fediverse, and #philosophy. Looking forward to have a great experience here!

Wow #birdwatch is sort of a cool idea. It’s a bit like how when an account is banned on mastodon, one can list the reasons publicly on the banning instance. I could see this sort of community moderation and contextual addition being useful in the #fediverse as well.

Hi, the federated timeline shows all the public posts from around the #Fediverse that your own server knows about. This usually means that one user on your instance follows another on a different instance, thus bringing their posts to your instance.

@hackernews
Well, the issues they raised sounds reasonable. Yet it seems they think that #fediverse equals #mastodon when there are several different implementations

Show more...

6 reasons the decentralised Fediverse is better than regular centralised social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc

Social media sucks. Platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are designed to turn your precious free time into money. What we see as a nice way to stay in touch with our friends, in reality are just many hits of dopamine stimulating precise spots in your brain, leading to you spending more time on the platform consuming ads.

But what if I told you that there is a huge ad-free social network out there, not governed by a central authority, full of great people and completely free to use? This place is called the Fediverse. Well, it's not really a place, it's many places.

See the 6 reasons and a good short overview of what the Fediverse is about at 6 reasons the Fediverse is better than regular social media

Lemmy is similar to sites like Reddit, Lobste.rs, or Hacker News but it's open source, it's federated with the Fediverse, and zero lock in

You subscribe to communities you're interested in, post links and discussions, then vote and comment on them. Lemmy isn't just a reddit alternative; its a network of interconnected communities ran by different people and organizations, all combining to create a single, personalized front page of your favorite news, articles, and memes.

Each server can set its own moderation policy, to help foster a healthy environment where all can feel comfortable contributing.

With Lemmy, you can easily host your own server, and all these servers are federated (think email), and connected to the same universe, called the Fediverse. For a link aggregator, this means that someone registered on one server can subscribe to communities elsewhere, and can have discussions with people on a completely different server.

Lemmy is free, open-source software, meaning no advertising, monetizing, or venture capital, ever.

Wow and now #FunkWhale is on the front page of hacker news. The #fediverse may be in for a another wave sooner then we know.

I just realized that on my Friendica account I have 659 #Fediverse / #Federation followers, while I only have 114 #Twitter followers, despite the latter network having way more users and cross-posting to and from each other.

This just shows that network total size just isn't a relevant metrics when choosing a social media platform.
