Those Pesky Diaspora* Notifications!

If you just click the Notification bell and then go down the list, clicking an item (or perhaps right-clicking to open in a new tab) or just clicking the mark-as-read eye icon, notifications can be a huge pain, right?. Well, even if you've been on Diaspora* for some time, there's an option you might have missed.

When you click on the bell and you see the drop-down list, notice the option at the very bottom of the list to "View all". Click that and you go to a page where you get a list of notifications by category: "Liked", "Mentioned in post", "mentioned in comment", and so on, in the left-hand pane. This allows you read, or to to mark as read, whole swathes of notifications in one go.

Click "Liked' and then click "Mark all shown as read" and they'll all be marked in one go. Of course, if you want to see who liked various posts, those likes will all be shown on a grey background at the top of the list. Mark them read and they'll turn white and the eyes will disappear.

Don't need to see who reshared your posts? Just click "Reshared" and then "Mark all shown as read". You can get rid of all the categories of notifications that you don't need to follow up on, and have the rest where you can easily handle them - at the top of the list.

If I'd programmed the Diaspora* code, I would have put "Notifications" in the left-hand pane of your main Stream page, right where you can see it at any time. But I don't think they're going to change the code now.

#YPJ #fighter Berfin Rizgar was martyred on the front line in Ain Issa on November 18. The command of the #Women's #Defense Units has published a memorial statement.
YPJ (Women’s Defense Units) fighter Berfin Rizgar (Cihan Misto) was martyred in action on November 18 at Ain Issa. The command of the Women's Defense Units announced her martyrdom in a statement published on Saturday and expressed their sympathy to her family.

"Our comrade Cihan Misto, code name Berfin, joined the YPJ at the time of the Kobanê war. On November 18, she joined the Caravan of Martyrs on the Ebû-Sira Front while carrying out her mission against the attacks of the Turkish occupying state," said the YPJ Command.

Berfin Rizgar was born and raised in Kobanê in 1995 and joined the defense units with her brother during the #IS attack on the city in 2014. Her first experience within the YPJ was in an extreme #war situation. She had to say goodbye to hundreds of dead including her brother Rizgar and gave her word to avenge them.
"Heval (Comrade) Berfin went to the front line with great anger and hatred and defeated the IS in Kobanê together with her companions. In doing so, she fulfilled the promise she had made to the martyrs and liberated Kobanê from the hands of the inhuman IS gangs. Under these conditions, which were as difficult as they were meaningful, she quickly developed and gained great experience. She took on the role of a commander and trained hundreds of young women. She taught her female companions how and why they had to fight for a free life.

Heval Berfin showed great discipline, attention and responsibility in life and as a commander. She dealt extensively with fighting methods and dealt with the question of which front can be defended and how.”

After the victory over the IS in Kobanê, Berfîn Rizgar was also present when the #Islamists were defeated in Deir ez-Zor and lost their territorial domination. The YPJ freed hundreds of #Yezidis from the IS captivity and retaliated for the #enslavement of thousands of #women.

The statemend concluded: "As YPJ, we give our word to all the bereaved that we will avenge the martyrs. Like Heval Berfin, we will fulfill our current tasks and show our solidarity with those fallen in our #liberation struggle. We also say: Dema Azadiyê ye [Time for freedom]. Let us all defend our country, our language and our system of a #democratic nation together in this time in a #mobilization".

Create systemd diaspora*

Updated for 2021 for diaspora version 0.7.14.0

Assumptions

• You are using a dedicated user to launch diaspora scripts named "diaspora"
• Your home directory is "/home/diaspora"

Steps

• Change directory to where you would normally manually start your script.
  • cd /home/diaspora/diaspora
• Run the following two commands:
  • rvm current
  • /bin/bash -lc "rvm current"
• The output of both of these needs to match exactly for the service and target files to work properly!

• Make sure you can manually run the following two commands and diaspora starts:

• If for any reason you cannot start these commands, your install of rvm probably isn't right (not in scope of this post).

• Create a target file that will call the diaspora unicorn and sidekiq service files sudo nano diaspora.target

Thanks for the notification, @Harka, didn’t know. But honestly, this stuff has been going on for years about Diaspora: radical Zealots like Kylo, murdered, & co, who can’t win a fair debate, so they go around and talk shit about you behind your back. As Captain Picard said .

I have my tags up on my profile for all the world to see – twirling my moustache. You should be more concerned and wary about those, who call for “better ways to enforce minimum standards”, who always have good deeds on their lips and only selflessly seek to make the world a better place for others.

You’re all going to die one day, it’s mortal nature. Standing before your Maker it’s better to say “I spoke my mind, honest and open” instead of “I made sure nobody with bad opinions said them on Diaspora.”

p.s.: Thanks to the Podmin @Tom Ruth, who understands that as long as we have Free Speech, we need not resort to violence to settle our differences. But those who are silenced, have but one way to redress their oppression.

Sara Fortis (born Sarika Yehoshua in 1927 in Chalkis, a small town near Athens, Greece) never knew her father, who passed away when she was only two months old. Raised by her mother, Sara and her sister enjoyed a happy childhood. Though they identified as 100% Greek, they also celebrated being Jewish by lighting candles every Friday and attending temple on holidays.

Sara knew it was time to leave her hometown when the Germans arrived in 1941. She had heard about Jews in other small Greek towns being deported by the Nazis and never returning. Sara and her mother escaped to the small village of Kuturla and hid there for a short while. When it was no longer safe for Jews, Sara was told to go, although the villagers agreed to hide her mother. Leaving her mother, Sara decided to become an andarte (resistance fighter). Wanting to play a significant role in the group, she decided to go from village to village to recruit other females who wanted to fight.

Sara formed a band of #female #partisans that became indispensable to the male fighters, transforming young village girls into women. On their first mission, they were ordered to throw Molotov cocktails to distract the enemy and allow the partisans to attack. Impressed by their skills, the male partisans invited the all-female group to join in many missions. They burned down houses, executed Nazi collaborators, and aided the men in a way no group of females had before. The male andartes were given credit for many missions the women completed, as it was unfathomable that women could accomplish such acts. Often the women were forced to sleep next to the men and Sara constantly worried about the women's safety.

Sara became a prominent and well-respected figure in the andartes movement in Greece. By age 18, she was known as 'Kapetenissa [Captain]Sarika'. The Nazis sent an informer to try to capture her, but mistakenly arrested -- then brutally raped and murdered -- her cousin, Medi. Vowing revenge, she tracked down and executed the informer.

After the war, the andartes fell out of favor with the new Greek government. Sara was arrested, but owing to her great reputation, she was released shortly after. She then emigrated to #Israel, where she met her husband and settled down.
